New 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee at Bossier Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM for Hillsboro, TX
This is a great, five passenger SUV for those who want to travel in comfort and safety, but also still get rough-road driving capabilities when going outside the lines. There are three strong engines to choose from, paired with three (available) different 4WD systems! There are several interesting and new features for the 2016 Grand Cherokee, one of them being a new shift lever that stays in the selected position and clearly indicates to the driver what state the vehicle is in (neutral, reverse, drive, etc.). The 3.6-liter gasoline V6 now has standard automatic stop-start technology combined with variable valve timing and lift to improve fuel economy. Also standard on all models is adjustable, electric-assist power steering, plus there are additional aluminum suspension components that work to lessen the Grand Cherokee's weight profile.
Under the Grand Cherokee's Hood
Every 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 getting 295 hp. The Limited, Overland and Summit models offer two other engines: a 5.7-liter V8 (360 hp and 390 pound-feet of torque), and a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel V6 (240 hp and 420 lb-ft torque). Rear-wheel drive is standard on Grand Cherokees, but also has three available 4WD systems: the one-speed Quadra-Trac I system (Laredo only), the Quadra-Trac II with a two-speed transfer case (all models) and the Quadra-Drive II with a rear electronic limited-slip differential (Limited, Overland and Summit). An adaptive air suspension (Quadra-Lift) is standard on 4WD Overland and Summit, while a driver-selectable traction control system is optional on 4WD Limited. Maximum towing capacity for a properly furnished, gas-powered Grand Cherokee V6 is 6,200 pounds. Towing capacity for both the 5.7-liter V8 and for the diesel V6 reaches 7,400 pounds, so you will be prepared for that spontaneous pop-up trailer trip this summer.
Design of Jeep Grand Cherokee
The 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes in four trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Overland, and Summit. Each can be ordered with either rear wheel drive (2WD) or four-wheel drive (4WD). With rear seats up, the cargo bay is 36.3 cubic feet, and when down, there is 68.3 cubic feet. Standard equipment for the base model Laredo includes 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless ignition and entry, automatic headlights, cruise control, a tilt-and-telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel, fog-lights, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth connectivity through six-speakers, a 5-inch touchscreen, a USB port and one aux jack. The Limited trim level has 18-inch wheels and the auto-dimming rearview mirror, and throws on both the 23E Package and the Security and Convenience Group. The Overland swells upwards with 20-inch wheels, dual chrome exhaust tips, a navigation system, a towing package (4WD only), power-folding mirrors, more body-color exterior pieces, and an advanced gauge cluster. The deluxe 2016 Summit model adds polish to those same wheels, front parking sensors, illuminated door sills, more acoustic glass for the windows, active noise-cancelling functionality, actual wood cabin trim, the Advanced Technology Group, and a sound system by Harman Kardon with an astonishing 19-speakers!
Is it hard to manage the 4WD settings for a beginner?
Jeep makes this easy with the available 'Selec-Terrain' traction control system, which electronically coordinates 12 powertrain, braking, and suspension systems via the driver just pushing a few buttons on the inside!
